Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Installation
With Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) installation you are able to power your camera with the RJ45 ethernet cable that runs back to the Remote Patrol Server. This is an effective option when it is not possible to power the cameras using a standard 110 volt outlet. This method requires the use of a PoE capable camera with a PoE adapter (see PoE adapter below) or requires a camera with built-in PoE and a PoE switch. The maximum distance for this run is approximately 300 feet.

Installation using PoE capable cameras:

Installation using cameras with built-in PoE:

PoE Adapter
A PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) adapter is an apparatus (sample shown below) that connects and introduces power to an Ethernet cable for equipment that is not PoE enabled. It is a two-part device that allows the base unit of the adapter to accept DC power from a transformer and regular Ethernet and outputs powered Ethernet. The base unit connects to the powered cable and splits it into DC output and regular Ethernet for the target device.

Wired Installation Powered from Server Location
When the cameras are not capable of Power-over-Ethernet a power source will have to be provided. Therefore, if you need to get power from the A/C adapter to your camera and do not have a 110 volt outlet near the camera location, a low voltage 18 gauge electrical wire can be run along with the Ethernet cable to the camera location from the server and the plugs will be spliced at both ends using the adapter that comes with the camera. All cabling should come back to the main location where the router will be placed.

Wired Installation Powered from the Camera Location
This will require 1 cat5 network cable with an RJ45 connector (modular plug) at each end. One end is plugged into the router at the Remote Patrol server location. The other end of this wire plugs directly into the camera. Power will need to be provided to the AC adapter to power the camera or PoE can be used.

Wireless Installation
When using wireless cameras you will need to power your cameras with a 110Volt power outlet, and a wireless access point device will need to be connected to your router at the Remote Patrol Server via a cat5 cable with an RJ45 connector at each end.
